Heerenveen are set to have clear-the-air talks with Brazilian striker Afonso Alves.

Alves admitted last month he was keen to join Middlesbrough, but was priced out of a move by his Dutch club.

The 26-year-old's transfer value will have increased further after he was crowned Dutch Player of the Year on Tuesday, beating the likes of Phillip Cocu and Alex to the accolade.

Heerenveen chief Yme Kuiper said: "If the required amount is not met then there is nothing we can do.

"At the end of the week we will have talks with the player, in order to clear things up. Then we will see what happens."
