Middlesbrough's Egyptian international Mido was allegedly subject to verbal abuse from Newcastle fans in last Saturday's Tees-Tyne derby at The Riverside. FA officials have announced they will investigate the incident but Mido, who was the target of Islamophobic taunts in the same fixture last season, does not expect progress to be made.
"They (Newcastle fans) kept chanting disgusting words, racist words, about Islam and unfortunately this is the second time from the same fans," Mido told Al Hayat.
"It happened since the first time the English FA did nothing. I considered this an invitation from the English FA to repeat such shameful acts from the Newcastle supporters.
"I can assure you that nothing is going to happen again this time. The English FA said that it will be investigating the issue and will make use of the latest technology to stop such racial abuse of players but I feel that nothing will happen.
"I am asking the English FA to take serious action to stop such things."
