Middlesbrough skipper Williams intent on making 2014 World Cup

Rhys Williams is determined to force his way into the Australia squad ahead of next year's World Cup.

The 25-year old Middlesbrough captain missed the 2010 trip to South Africa because of injury and was also unavailable for recent 2014 qualifiers in June.

But the defender, who can also operate in midfield, is intent on winning back his spot in the Socceroos line-up starting with the friendly against Brazil this weekend.

"I don't like to be known as the guy who missed the last World Cup through injury and hopefully if I can keep playing well and keep my spot in the team, I can put a few wrongs right this coming summer," he said.

"It's nice to know the boss (Holger Osieck) has been watching me because I've been playing quite well lately.

"It's brilliant to be back and I always said I'd never take my spot for granted, so I'll work harder than ever to keep my spot now."
