Middlesbrough's Williams ready for international action - Osieck

Australia boss Holger Osieck is confident that Rhys Williams is ready to be thrown into international action again.

The 25-year old midfielder, who can just as easily be deployed in defence, has been named in Osieck's 22-man squad for next month's friendly with Brazil in Brasilia after missing recent World Cup qualifiers and the Socceroos boss is buoyant about having the Boro skipper fit again.

"Yes, unfortunately Rhys was unable to join us in June for our matches against Japan, Jordan and Iraq," Osieck said in an interview with Football Federation Australia.

"We have been monitoring him closely since then and he is back playing regular first team football as the captain of his club. He's now ready to join the group again."

Williams has started all four matches since the Championship season began earlier in August and sees his Boro side sitting 14th on the table with one win and two draws.
