Middlesbrough's Williams dismayed by fans behaviour

Middlesbrough defender Rhys Williams could not quite see why the clubs supporters booed the players off the pitch last weekend.

Fourth-placed Boro were beaten 2-0 at home by Burnley last Saturday and the players were given a negative reception from the Riverside Stadium faithful.

Australian international Williams was disappointed with the behaviour of the fans and was puzzled as to why the Boro team were treated the way they were considering it was just their fifth loss in 26 Championship matches so far this season.

"We have played well this season, so to be booed off after one defeat when we are fourth puts a dampener on things," he told the Evening Gazette.

"I know it wasn't the best performance. We were sloppy and we let in two poor goals - but it's not like we go out to lose.

"Look at the league table - we sit fourth. I know we shouldn't have lost against Burnley, but every team loses games. Even Barcelona lose games.

"We have had a good solid start to the season and probably done far, far better than anyone expected in the summer. We have raised everybody's expectations with a good start, so yes, it is a bit frustrating when we get booed off."
