Middlesbrough's Tuncay joins Huth at Stoke City

Turkish striker Tuncay Sanli has joined his Middlesbrough teammate Robert Huth at Stoke City.

The Potters have given Tuncay another chance in the Premier League and have also given the duo a great opportunity leading into next year's World Cup.

Boro manager Gareth Southgate agreed that Tuncay, as a Turkey international regular, needs to be playing in the top flight.

"Tuncay is an international player, he wants to play in the Premier League," Southgate said.

"He has loved his time here, I think, but the challenge of this Championship promotion push isn't one that he wants at the moment.

"I don't criticise him for that - he has got a World Cup year, as has Robert (with Germany), and that's something that's at the forefront of both of their minds.

"I understand that and I also understand what we have to do as a football club, so there are no issues with either player from my point of view."

The deal for the duo is believed to be in the £11million region.
