Middlesbrough have accepted an offer from Aston Villa for midfielder Stewart Downing.

The injured Downing is expected to complete his move to Villa Park after extensive medical tests.

The 24-year old suffered a broken foot in a challenge against Villa two months ago and will not be back in action until October at the earliest but looks set to join the club for a fee of £12million.
