Middlesbrough are ready to discuss a swap offer with Everton for striker Andy Johnson.

The People says Gareth Southgate is hoping to use Everton's interest in David Wheater to land Johnson. Wheater, 21, has emerged as a quality centre-half and has caught the eye of Blues boss David Moyes.

And there is every chance the move can happen despite Johnson signing a new deal following interest from West Ham and Spurs.

Striker AJ, 27, has been in and out at Everton, but Boro boss Southgate will still have to cough up £6million plus Wheater.
