Middlesbrough are eyeing Aston Villa midfielder Stephen Ireland.

The Daily Star Sunday says Boro can't afford Ireland's £65,000-a-week wages and hope Villa agree to pay a big slice of the midfielder's salary.

Ireland, 26, only has a year left on his contract and has been told by Villa boss Paul Lambert he has no future with the club.
