Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate has left the No1 shirt free following Mark Schwarzer's departure for Fulham.

Southgate has challenged hopefuls Ross Turnbull and Brad Jones to prove they are the men to plug that gap left by the 35-year-old Australian amid speculation he could draft in an experienced replacement.

However, 23-year-old Turnbull will continue to wear the number 21, while Jones, 26, has retained the number 22 shirt.
