Middlesbrough are to launch a thorough investigation into Jonathan Woodgate's ongoing niggling injury, reports the Evening Gazette.

The central defender, who enjoyed a storming performance in the 2-1 defeat of Arsenal, had to be substituted with cramp 20 minutes from time.

It's the second match in a row that Woodgate has been replaced because of the problem and Gareth Southgate revealed: "His leg has cramped up during the last couple of games.

"We don't know why this is happening but it's something we need to get to the bottom of as quickly as is possible."
