Middlesbrough defender David Wheater has revealed how his Dad keeps a tight rein on his personal finances.

"He took my (bank) card off me so I don't go mad," said Wheater. "He looks after my money for me. I would just spend it. It's better that way. He's just trying to make sure I'm not flash."

The England international even had to ask permission from Mr Wheater about buying himself the mandatory £5,000 footballer's watch.

"My dad let me get the watch in the end, though I think I was going to get it anyway," he added.

"What did my dad say when he saw it? 'Bloody hell!' I got another one as well and he wasn't happy about that!"
