Middlesbrough defender Andrew Taylor has urged teammates not to be defeatist.
"We can't afford to think that we are gone until it is mathematically certain," he told The Northern Echo.
"Two years ago, West Ham climbed out of it; last season, Fulham did - so, this year, there's every chance we can do it.
"We are lacking in confidence, we know that, but if we forget about everything that has happened and concentrate on the three big games that we have coming up then we will have a chance.
"If we can take maximum points from the next three games, those nine points would seriously strengthen our position.
"It would also do wonders for our confidence.
"Pressure is a big thing for a young squad like ours but, if we can claim that first win, I'm sure the pressure will be lifted."
