Middlesbrough defender Gibson signs new long-term deal

Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson has signed a new five-year deal with the club.

The 24-year-old was the subject of multiple failed bids from West Bromwich Albion in the summer, and Manchester City were also reportedly interested in acquiring Gibson's services.

Gibson, who has spent time on loan at Plymouth Argyle, York City and Tranmere Rovers, has made 154 appearances for Boro.

"Having been with Boro since the age of 10, and risen through the ranks of the Academy through to the first team, the 24-year-old has put pen to paper on a new deal that runs to 2022," Gibson said on the club's official website.

"I'm delighted to sign a new contract.

"I've been lucky enough to go on and play for the club, and even captain the team, and I've had some amazing experiences here."
