Middlesbrough are battling to strike terms with Reading for midfielder James Harper.

Boro have made a £3million bid for the 27-year-old former Arsenal trainee.

But relegated Reading are holding out for £4.5m.

And a Boro source admitted to the News of the World: "Their valuation is high. We've made a bid, they've asked for quite a bit more, but we hope to compromise."
