Middlesbrough caretaker Agnew talks Jordan, Downing

Middlesbrough caretaker boss Steve Agnew is convinced Joe Jordan can make a big impact.

Agnew has drafted in the vastly experienced Jordan, who worked with Harry Redknapp for many years, as his assistant and believes the Scot's enthusiasm will rub off on his players.

“Joe is great football guy," he said.

“I've known him for a long time and have done courses with him.

“He's worked at the highest level and he's somebody I trust who can have a big impact here.

“He lives in Bristol and when I made the phone call, he was in the car and up here six hours later.

“That's all you need to know."

Agnew has recalled Steward Downing, frozen out by Karanka, back into the squad and hinted at the former England winger starting against United this weekend.

“Stewart has a big role to play between now and the end of the season," he said.
