Middlesbrough are set to miss out on Liverpool winger Stewart Downing ahead of tomorrow's loan transfer deadline.

The Daily Express says his hopes of a loan move to ex-club Middlesbrough could be dashed due to his £80,000-a-week wages.

Downing has been sidelined at Anfield since Brendan Rodgers took over and Boro manager Tony Mowbray is keen to take him back to the club where he began his career.
