Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate admits he's playing a waiting game with Manchester United striker Alan Smith.

It's a fortnight since Boro agreed a fee, believed to be around £6m, for the former Leeds striker but they are still unsure if he will be heading to Teesside.

"I haven't had any discussions with the player," said Southgate. "All the discussions are at a higher level than I am at."
