Gareth Southgate may have defied the bookies again this week but the Middlesbrough manager is still sorry to see the demise of former England team-mate Tony Adams at Portsmouth.
The Boro boss remains the bookies' favourite for the chop following the departures of Adams and Luiz Felipe Scolari and an FA Cup exit at West Ham on Saturday will increase the pressure, even if chairman Steve Gibson has insisted the former club captain's job is safe.
Southgate said: "I am still here. On Monday we said we have done the bookies again and they have lost out a few times on me.
"I know that Tony in particular over the last few weeks had to sell two of his best players and clubs have to be realistic about what can be achieved with the budgets they give. Luckily, we have a chairman here who is realistic."
