Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate says new Egypt international signing Mohamed Shawky will need time to adjust to Premiership life.

Southgate said: "Mido has had a big impact but every player is an individual and every player takes a different length of time to adapt.

"We will just have to see how he adapts. We feel Shawky will be a success here. In every sense it's a big change for Shawky, and Mido will be a big help to him.

"Culturally it's a big change and Mido will be able to explain the changes in the way of life over here. The language change is also dramatic.

"Shawky speaks a little bit and understands quite a lot but to have a familiar face around, and someone who can go round to his house to help him settle, will really help."
