Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate is targeting a new striker signing for the January market.
Southgate said: "It is frustrating for Mido and for the rest of us to lose him in this way because we all want him out on the pitch and scoring goals.
"But the most important thing is that we resolve the problem even if unfortunately it takes longer than we would like."
He added: "We are looking at potential targets in January but we have not ourselves come down to one or two players to go for.
"There are still maybe three or four targets and we want to keep watching players over the coming weeks to finalise those targets."
