Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate has no qualms throwing his youngsters into the Premiership fray.
After defeat at Portsmouth, Southgate insisted: "You might say we haven't got enough depth in our squad to cover situations like this but we've chosen to go that route because, financially, we've had to do that and it means our younger players who give us everything, do get a chance to come through.
"We had a couple on the bench in Nathan Porritt and Josh Walker and until you let them dip their feet in you don't really know what they can do but, in the present circumstances, they may be there or thereabouts."
