Middlesbrough boss Southgate plays down halftime melee

Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate played down a halftime melee during their 1-0 defeat to Manchester United.

There was controversy at half-time as players from both teams jostled in the tunnel after a clash between Cristiano Ronaldo and Boro defender Emanuel Pogatetz.

Ronaldo earlier appeared to have been dragged to the floor by the Austrian in the area at a corner and the two players went head-to-head as they left the pitch.

Police were called to keep order but Boro boss Southgate said: "There was finger pointing and shouting but nothing else. The referee was there and he seems happy."
