Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate is set to be handed transfer cash by chairman Steve Gibson to buy a new striker in January.

A senior Boro source told The Times: "There's a feeling at the club that the team have performed better than results have shown and while the results are important, the performances have fundamentally been there.

"Perhaps we've been a striker short and we'll try to do something about that in January."
