Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate is set to start the Championship campaign with Tuncay Sanli on the teamsheet.

He said: "I'm amazed Tuncay is still with us. I didn't expect him to be with us come the start of September.

"I have had several calls. We have had no written offers yet but things are heating up.

"He would like to stay in England but as it goes on he is thinking he may have to go to Europe.

"He is a damn good footballer with a cracking character. I'm surprised we have still got him."
