Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka is grateful to Jose Mourinho for his career mentoring.
Karanka has revealed what he gained from Manchester United boss Mourinho when working alongside him at Real Madrid.
He told the Daily Mail: "With Jose, it was an education — an incredible coach.
"Two things about Jose stood out. Firstly, I was unsure as to how is best to man-manage people and players.
"My only previous coaching was with the Spanish FA in the youth teams... it's a different pressure with a first team.
"Jose taught me that you have to be honest. He tells people frankly, to their face, what he thinks and why he has dropped them or made a big decision.
"Then he taught me that no player is bigger than the team. OK, there's Messi and Ronaldo but most of us do not have a 70-goal-a-season striker, with a club like ours the team has to come first."
