Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka admits he's tried to sign Watford striker Troy Deeney in the past.

Karanka tried to get the striker two years ago but the price tag meant the deal did not happen.

"I would have liked to sign him,' said Karanka, ahead of today's clash between Boro and Watford. "But at the time we just didn't have the money.

"Perhaps things would have been different a year or so ago, but Watford had been promoted by then. Everybody likes Deeney because he scores goals."
