Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate was happy to give Egypt international Mohamed Shawky his debut in this week's Carling Cup defeat to Tottenham.

He said: "We asked Mohamed to sit and pick up bits and pieces. He is a tidy player who has been here for only a fortnight and is still adapting."
