Middlesbrough youngster Jonathan Grounds will be better for the experience after enduring a rough-ride at Tottenham, says manager Gareth Southgate.

"It was a tough test, (Aaron) Lennon is a good player but we didn't get a lot of protection for Jonathan," said Southgate. "Stewie Downing had been suffering with a bit of a virus and was a bit short of energy.

"But when you play against those players you learn a lot."
