Middlesbrough boss Steve Agnew is ready to go back to basics for tonight's six pointer with Hull City.
Having predominantly played with a lone frontman for the majority of the campaign, Agnew has taken heart from Rudy Gestede's impact from the bench in recent weeks.
And he is preparing to go direct in his search for goals to fire Boro to victory over the Tigers and end a winless run of 12 matches.
Agnew said: “Rudy is 6'4 or 6'5, quick, powerful and when balls come into the box, he's a big threat for any defender in the Premier League, that will be no different for the Hull defenders.
“I felt at Swansea when they (Negredo and Gestede) were on the field together, we did have more – not really good chances – but balls dropping in and around the box.
“It's like his first goal against Manchester United, we kept the ball alive and there's more bodies in the box.
“Is it a direct style of play? Of course it is, but we need to find a way of winning football matches and if it's a direct style of play, it it's support from midfield and wide players or if it's good possession-based football, we're not interested as a group how we score a goal."
