Middlesbrough are battling Aston Villa for Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson.
The People says Boro boss Gareth Southgate wants a top-class replacement for Mark Schwarzer, who joined Fulham this summer, and sees England international Robinson as ideal.
Boro are prepared to offer a straight cash deal of £5million for 28-year-old Robinson, who will be allowed to leave White Hart Lane after Tottenham announced the £7m signing of Brazilian Heurelho Gomes from PSV Eindhoven.
