Middlesbrough have given Aiyegbeni Yakubu permission to talk to Everton after the two clubs agreed a fee believed to be £11.25million.

The Teessiders finally accepted the Toffees' offer, which is currently undisclosed, for the 24-year-old Nigeria international after a protracted pursuit paid dividends.

A Boro spokesman said: "We can confirm we have agreed a fee for the sale of Yakubu and he has been given permission to talk to Everton.

"We will only confirm the fee once any deal is complete."
