Meyler happy to play anywhere for Sunderland

David Meyler is keen to nail down a regular start for Sunderland.

Meyler is set to come in for the suspended Lee Cattermole against Wigan as the Black Cats skipper starts a three-match ban for his red card in the midweek win at MK Dons.

He said: "The boss knows I'll play anywhere to be in the team. I don't mind if it's centre-half, right-back, central midfield or whatever.

"I'll play anywhere if it means an opportunity to play for Sunderland. I'm not a defender, but there are plenty of experienced lads in the team to help me if I'm needed at the back.

"I've told the manager I'll even play in goal if he needs me to!"
