Mexico will try to emulate Tottenham's Giovani after reaching U17 World Cup final

The Mexico U17 team has qualified for the FIFA World Cup final in their own country following their semi-final win over tournament favorites Germany. The El Tri juniors made it six wins in a row with a 3-2 result over the Germans in Torreon to set up a decider with Uruguay who defeated Brazil 3-0.

Julio Gomez put Mexico ahead in the third minute before Germany hit back twice through Samed Yesil (10th minute) and Emre Can (60th).

But the home side rallied to level the score thanks to Jorge Espericueta who curled in a corner kick which evaded all in the box and sailed into the net with just over ten minutes remaining.

And not to be outdone, Gomez came up with the winner from a clever bicycle kick with two minutes left to send his nation through to the final.

The current Mexico crop will now try to emulate the class of 2005, who led by Arsenal's Carlos Vela and Tottenham's Giovani dos Santos, defeated Brazil in Peru.

The final against Uruguay is schedule for Sunday, July 10 at 6:00pm local time at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City and will follow the third-placed match between Brazil and Germany.
