Mexico thank USA for keeping World Cup dream alive

The Mexican press have temporarily buried their dislike for the USA after their World Cup dream was kept alive on Tuesday.

El Tri needed the US to beat Panama in Panama City to retain fourth spot in CONCACAF qualifying after they were beaten 2-1 by Costa Rica but it did not look good with only minutes remaining.

The US trailed Panama 2-1 before injury-time goals from Graham Zusi and Aron Johannsson saved the day for Mexico, allowing them to clinch the playoff spot, where they will meet New Zealand in a two-leg clash.

Mexican media outlets rejoiced on Wednesday morning by showing their gratitude to their arch enemies for keeping their hopes of Brazil 2014 very much alive.

ESPN Deportes used the headline: "God bless America!" whilst the Fox Deportes website showing "Gracias, USA" on their homepage.

Record said "We Love You!" as El Universal posted "If it wasn't for them …"

The US, who topped the hexagonal group, are straight into the World Cup finals while Mexico will now have to successful navigate their November 13 and 20 clashes with the All Whites to be played in Mexico City and Wellington respectively.
