Mexico to meet Costa Rica at Orlando's Citrus Bowl

The Mexico national team will take on Costa Rica at the Citrus Bowl later this year.

El Tri and Los Ticos will clash in downtown Orlando on June 27 in a battle of CONCACAF rivals which acts as part of Mexico's US tour.

Miguel Herrera's side return to the Orlando Citrus Bowl for the first time since the 1994 FIFA World Cup for a fixture which comes after their March 28 meeting with Ecuador in Los Angeles and the Kansas City clash with Paraguay three days later.

President Phil Rawlins of Orlando City SC, the MLS club that calls the Citrus Bowl home, said the Mexico v Costa Rica clash was another great event for the local community which has backed the sport remarkably since the Lions moved from Austin to central Florida.

"Part of our ongoing commitment to the community has been to attract global soccer events that drive our local economy, and today we deliver again on that commitment," said Rawlins. "This is a clash of two major CONCACAF rivals that we expect will draw thousands of fans to the Orlando Citrus Bowl.

"We want to thank our partners Orlando Venues, the Central Florida Sports Commission and of course the City of Orlando and Orange County for their help in securing this event, and we look forward to ongoing efforts to secure similar high-caliber events for the 'Soccer Capital of the South.'"
