Rene Meulensteen says Memphis Depay must up his intensity if he's to make it at Manchester United.

The former PSV Eindhoven star struggled in his first season at United and was dropped from Saturday's FA Cup final squad.

Ex-United coach Meulensteen has offered some advice to the Dutchman: "It's disappointing when you get players for a considerable amount of money and they do not bring what you expect.

"You wonder why he's been so disappointing. I know Depay reasonably well because he comes from the Netherlands, and the transition from the Dutch to the English league has been very big.

"In the Netherlands you can get away playing games at sixty percent and still win. That cannot happen in England."

He added: "You cannot play well one week and then three or four weeks have nothing to show. Every week you must be at your best."
