Meulensteen revels in Fulham's draw at Man Utd

Rene Meulensteen has described Darren Bent's injury-time equaliser as good as a 'winner' in Fulham's 2-2 draw at Manchester United on Sunday.

The former United assistant guided his Cottagers side to a much-needed point at Old Trafford which came after goals from Robin van Persie and Michael Carrick within two minutes gave them a 2-1 lead following Steve Sidwell's early opener.

David Moyes' Red Devils were destined for a victory but old stager Bent nodded home deep into stoppage time to give the bottom-placed southwest Londoners a boost which thrilled Meulensteen to no end.

"We set out, as anybody can see, we needed to stay in there after the results we have had in the last couple of weeks. But we made it very difficult for them," he told Sky Sports.

"United have got some problems of their own in that respect. They kept creating chances and crosses but I think we defended fantastically well and held out as long as we could.

"At the end, you think you have let it slip away. When you get bombarded like that, you know the class that they have to score the goal, which they did and it gave them a lift. But at the end, for Darren Bent to score that equaliser felt like a winner."
