Former Manchester United No2 Rene Meulensteen feels they missed a trick not buying big in the summer.
The Dutchman left United at the end of last season.
He told talkSPORT: "In my opinion I think there should have been some other players added to the team just to make sure there is a constant thrust to the team and that people want to join United to make sure they win more trophies.
"Obviously a lot has been said about the transfer window and what David Moyes and the club went through to bring Marouane Fellaini in.
"The manager always needs to strengthen the team to get the maximum out of the players. The key is making sure, at the right time, you refresh the team and give them a new impulse because, especially upfront. If you don't you become too predictable.
"Last year the arrival of Robin van Persie was the most important thing but this year, apart from Fellaini, nothing has really happened."
