Metgod: Portsmouth too quick with sackings

Former first-team coach John Metgod has accused Portsmouth of not giving the coaching staff a chance to change things around. Metgod and manager Tony Adams were axed from their roles on Monday after just 22 games on the South Coast.

"For three months I worked well at Portsmouth," he told AD Sportwereld. "We often put on good performances.

"On Saturday we were 2-1 ahead with eight minutes to go. In the 93rd minute it was 3-2 to Liverpool because of an error in defence.

"The fans saw a spectacle and chanted the entire match for the coach. The real fans know that Tony didn't get an honest chance."

Despite a disappointing spell at Fratton Park, Metgod revealed he would jump at the chance to work with Adams in the future.

"Adams is an excellent coach," he said. "I got on really well with him and as a craftsman I have him high in my mind.

"If there is a chance, I want to work with him again - in England or Holland."
