Barcelona star Lionel Messi controls the locker room by text, it has been revealed.

Marca says Messi made it clear how he felt about coach Pep Guardiola signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic back in 2009.

Though the exact words vary depending on who is telling the tale, all accounts agree on the gist of the Argentine's message to his coach: "Well, I can see I'm not important to the team anymore, so..."

Messi was only a couple of seats away from Guardiola on the team bus as Barca were returning from a Liga fixture.

Barca teammates are in agreement over Messi's ruling of the dressing room: "He's no dictator, but he certainly makes his presence felt in his own way".

The arrival of Ibrahimovic, a player Guardiola had pushed hard to sign, had come as a blow to Messi. But with that text to his coach, he had sealed the Swede's fate.
