Messi hat-trick inspires Barcelona to stunning Supa Copa triumph

Lionel Messi produced a hat-trick to inspire Barcelona to a stunning Supa Copa win over Sevilla.

Messi scored a hat-trick as Barcelona turned around a 3-1 first-leg deficit to claim the Supercopa with an impressive win over an under-par Sevilla side at the Nou Camp.

David Villa came on to make his debut late on and new president Sandro Rosell was in his box seat for the first time in a night of celebrations.

Rosell was to win his first trophy as Barca boss, but the Catalans were also presented with the league trophy they won right at the end of last season and welcomed back their World Cup winners too.

"We were not lazy tonight, it was just that Barcelona's squad is of a much higher standard than ours," Sevilla coach Antonio Alvarez said.

"We did not do well enough in the first 30 minutes. Barcelona are an attacking team that is also very good at defending - [Barcelona coach Pep] Guardiola showed us the world champions tonight."
