Afterwards, Messi declared: "We knew it would be a really difficult game and would condition the future.

"They've been tough for us since Cholo arrived there, but we went after them from the start. They are really hard to play against. They've got great players who create great moves. But we controlled them. It wasn't a penalty, but up to that point they'd not got close to our goal."
