Sky Sports pundits Paul Merson and Jamie Redknapp have both backed Manchester City star Sergio Aguero to win the Golden Boot in the Premier League this season.

The Argentina international, who finished with 24 goals last season despite missing eight games with injuries, is also the bookies' favourite to finish the season as the league's top goalscorer.

Ex-Arsenal ace Merson said on Sky: "I have to go for Aguero.

"Usually I'd pick someone who is guaranteed to play every week and even though Aguero gets injuries, he can get bursts of goals.

"He will get hat-tricks or four goals in games and there's not too many others who can do that."

While former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp added: "I backed Aguero last season and the only reason he wasn't top scorer up was down to injuries.

"His goals per game ratio is simply outstanding and if he stays fit he surely must be top scorer."
