Merson backing Lallana to be big Liverpool star

Former Arsenal star Paul Merson believes Adam Lallana will surprise a lot of people at Liverpool.

Lallana joined the Reds in a £25million deal earlier this summer from Southampton.

"I would have to say I really want to watch Adam Lallana next season. I say that because Liverpool is such a step up for him, going there from Southampton for a massive fee and I'm really interested to see how he does," said Merson, speaking to Sky Sports.

"I'll give you an example - Rickie Lambert has scored a million penalties on the trot and then goes to Liverpool and misses his first one in a pre-season game. That's pressure - and I like seeing how people react to pressure.

"Liverpool is a totally different kettle of fish to Southampton, but Lallana is a really good player and if he gets going he could be an absolute superstar because he'll be playing with better players now."
