Merseyside Police has withdrawn a legal challenge against a late kick-off at Saturday's derby, reports BBC News. The force applied to change the 17:30 GMT start of Everton v Liverpool game due to concerns it would increase the risk of alcohol-fuelled disorder.
Liverpool City Council had refused to amend Goodison Park's ground safety certificate to allow an earlier start.
During discussions at South Sefton Magistrates' Court, Everton agreed to further segregation arrangements.
Lawyers for the police withdrew the case once additional arrangements were agreed.
Police were concerned the late start would increase the risk of trouble at the stadium and inside pubs screening the match.
