Ghana defender John Mensah is determined to get a long-term move to Sunderland.

The defender was a revelation for Steve Bruce last season, but his injury record and fee being demanded by Lyon has put the Black Cats off from making his loan move permanent.

But Mensah, who Bruce describes as "colossal" when fit, is hoping to return to the Premier League next season.

He said: "Last season there was a problem in my back that caused problems in my calves and the backs of my legs, but they have a good physio, and I have my own physio out here with me now at the World Cup. I'm fine now, feeling good."
