After falling out with Steve Bruce at Birmingham City, it is now all change for Wigan Athletic captain Mario Melchiot.

Melchiot said: "The biggest thing that has changed is that he never used to work much on technical things. When he came in, he changed pretty much everything.

"He needed to because we were in the bottom three - and the things he's done are working for us. The way he goes about the game is very impressive. I think he has progressed really fast.

"I don't know if he is a more relaxed person than he was at Birmingham but I have got to know him in a different way as a person."

Bruce said: "Mario was part of a team that was relegated and I was the manager. Strong words are going to be used in those circumstances - but it is all history now."
