Melbourne Victory wish Germany-bound Langerak well for the future

Melbourne Victory football operations manager Gary Cole has confirmed the departure of goalkeeper Mitch Langerak and wished him well for the future.

Langerak is set to join German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund subject to a medical and Cole, on behalf of the Victory, has offered his best to the promising 21-year old.

"There is no doubt we wanted to retain the services of Mitch for next season, but both the opportunity for him at a massive European Club, and the transfer deal for the club, has led to this outcome," Cole said.

"While it will be sad to see Mitch go, Melbourne Victory prides itself on player development and with a player of Mitch's quality, we always felt it was only a matter of time before European teams would come knocking.

"We wish him well for the future and are very confident he'll make an impact in the Bundesliga."

Langerak said he was excited about the deal, describing it as a dream come true.

"I'm absolutely thrilled and obviously really excited about the prospect of signing for one of Germany's most successful clubs, but at the same time I'll certainly miss all our fantastic supporters here in Melbourne" Langerak said.

"I'd like to thank Melbourne Victory for not only the opportunities they have given me, but also the faith they have shown in my ability. It's been a steep learning curve from Day 1, but to achieve my dream of becoming the clubs first-choice keeper last season was amazing, and now to embark on this opportunity, it is another dream come true."
