Melbourne Victory unhappy with Miller ban

Melbourne Victory are unhappy with the two-match ban handed to Brisbane Roar midfielder Charlie Miller.

The former Rangers playmaker was cited on video evidence after the match for an incident involving former teammate Robbie Kruse.

Miller appeared to knock Kruse to the ground with a left-handed punch to the head and has been outed for two matches.

However, the Victory believe the punishment is too lenient.

"I think he got off lightly," defender Rodrigo Vargas said yesterday.

"We've had incidents where Fabiano got nine weeks for allegedly spitting at someone. Fred got pinged for a few weeks and this was a blatant punch to the face.

"I saw the incident and I think there's no reason in the game for it."

Coach Ernie Merrick echoed Vargas' sentiments.

"I am disappointed with the outcome of the tribunal," Merrick said.

"A situation like this, where a player is king-hit, I've not seen that in the NSL or A-League.

"When a player king-hits another player, that needs to be stamped out of the game and the suspension needs to be substantial.

"In this situation, (two games) was the absolute minimum suspension that could have been given.

"There just doesn't appear to be any consistency of penalty. What sort of message are we sending about a situation where someone can be hit like that?"
